The honest version
The queue is not the problem. The ticket is.
It removes the collection queue. It cannot remove the timed slot.
Skip-the-line marketing at most European monuments addresses a real and miserable problem: a two-hour queue in the sun to buy a ticket. At the Alhambra the situation is different, and more awkward.
The Alhambra caps the number of visitors per day, and it sells timed entry to the Nasrid Palaces in batches. The scarce thing is therefore not your place in a line — it is the ticket itself. In April, May, September and October the daily allocation regularly goes two to three weeks in advance, and on some days there is simply nothing left to queue for.
So what does fast track actually do? It removes the collection queue: the line at the ticket pavilion where people who bought online exchange a booking for a physical ticket. That queue is real, it is worst at 08:30 and again around 14:00 when the two main entry waves begin, and on a bad morning it can cost you half an hour. On a guided tour the operator handles it entirely and you never see it.
What it does not do: move your Nasrid slot, get you past the ID check, or make the site less busy inside. Nothing does those.

Six things that actually save time
Some of these matter more than the fast-track label does.
- Bring the right ID
A passport or national ID card, physical, matching the name on the booking. A photo on a phone is refused, and this is the commonest reason people are held up at the gate.
- Arrive for the tour, not for the slot
The meeting point is outside the complex and the group assembles before entering. That is usually thirty minutes before the listed tour time, which is not your Nasrid time.
- Avoid the 08:30 and 14:00 waves if you can choose
Those are when the two main entry batches begin and when the pavilion is busiest. Mid-morning slots are noticeably calmer.
- Take the bus up, not a taxi, in high season
The C30 and C32 minibuses have a dedicated route. On busy mornings the taxi road to the Alhambra car park backs up badly.
- Have the voucher open before you reach the guide
Groups of thirty move at the speed of the slowest phone.
- Do not buy the audio guide at the entrance
If you have a guide it is redundant, and the stall is directly in the path of everyone arriving.
